In 2026 it was rebuilt, and the version on the site today sells three things in its own words: a companion whose every detail "is yours to shape", calls you can place whenever you want ("they pick up every time"), and a memory that holds "your people, your routines, your plans". Its research page lists five studies on companion chatbots, in journals and conference proceedings. None of that is marketing we are paraphrasing; it is the copy on its pages, read on 14 October 2026.
Two things it does not publish are worth saying plainly. There is no price anywhere on replika.com: the figures in this comparison come from its App Store listing, which prices subscriptions at $7.99 and $14.99 a month, $49.99 and $69.99 a year, and Replika Platinum at $89.99. And its Terms of Service say nothing about sexual or adult content in either direction — they bar under-18s and bar configuring a companion to impersonate a real person, and leave the rest unstated. Replika's 2023 removal of romantic features is widely reported, but it is not on any page of theirs we read, so it stays out of the table above. If an uncensored conversation is what you came for, nothing on their site promises one.
Where the two really differ is place, not initiative. Both write first: Replika's manifesto describes "the kind of AI that follows up", one that "nudges you to reach out when it matters" and "sends you a poem, just because", and its feature card says it sends a selfie unprompted. The difference is that a Replika message arrives as a notification from an app you installed, and a TooShy message arrives in WhatsApp or Telegram in the same list as everyone else you talk to — and that there is one Replika, shaped by you, against a cast of dozens here, written by us. Replika takes calls and we do not; we send video circles and contextual photos and it does not.
