JOI AI Alternatives: Safety Page vs. FAQ

By Sam Reeves, TooShy Editorial
Two overlapping translucent sheets of blank cards, slightly out of register, on a dark plum background

Yes, there are several, and the best reason to look is on JOI's own site. The homepage FAQ says “Joi's AI will generate both the visuals and the conversation” and invites you to “request NSFW photos.” Its safety page says the opposite about pictures: images “are not generated in response to specific user requests” and come “exclusively” from “predefined folders.” The Terms describe the platform as one that offers “AI-generated adult imagery and video.” A reader can't tell from the pages which of the three describes the product.

That gap, and a price list that is not readable without an account, are what set the shortlist below. Six products follow. Each is described only from what its company prints, and nothing here settles which of JOI's pages is right. Where the pages disagree, we say so.

What JOI is

JOI describes itself on its About page as “a platform where you can build AI-lationships,” with “official digital duplicates of real celebrities” next to “custom characters fresh from your imagination,” through “real-time AI-powered chat, photos, and videos.” The homepage is a wall of character cards, each labelled “Joi Original” or “Celebrity,” some with a “Level” tag, and it is an adults-only product: the Terms require users to be at least 18, or the age of majority where it is higher. The operator named in the Terms is Lanoto Solutions Inc., with an address in New Rochelle, New York.

Memory is a single FAQ line: characters “learn your likes – kinks, fetish and fantasy,” and “the more you interact, the more tailored the experience becomes.” No context size, no tier, no limit. Customisation gets the same treatment — you can design a character's “looks,” “personality, behavior” and more, but the pages do not describe the builder or its limits.

The shape of the money is described only in the Terms. “Premium” is a recurring subscription billed monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually, paid by card, Google Pay, Apple Pay or, “where available,” cryptocurrency. Unpaid for seven days, it falls back to “Basic.” On top sit “Bot Subscriptions,” a separate purchase for some individual characters that only work while Premium is active. And on top of that sit Neurons, the unit for “romantic, erotic or sexually explicit messages, visual content, or adult-themed scenarios.”

What the prices are, and why we cannot print them

The amounts are not on any page we could read. joi.com/pricing, /faq, /plans, /premium, /subscription and /help all return a 404, and the homepage names no Premium price. The Terms add that “Premium,” Bot Subscription and Neuron prices “may vary based on region, length of subscription, selected Virtual friend, character, or bot, available promotions, and other factors.” So a figure from a review site is one person's price.

What the Terms do give are Neuron costs: “One romantic message costs 4 neurons to be read. One photo view costs up to 120 neurons depending on the theme. One video view costs up to 1900 neurons depending on the theme.” They add that “loyal customers may get beneficial pricing.” Two things follow from the wording. The charge is on reading, not sending, and the top end is a ceiling rather than a price. How many Neurons a Premium month includes, and what a Neuron costs in dollars, are not stated anywhere we looked.

Refunds are the other half. The Terms say “You shall not claim refunds for any partial period of subscription,” and that losing Premium suspends Bot Subscriptions without “a refund, credit, compensation, or extension.” Cancelling is possible “at any time” from the My Subscriptions section, and takes effect at the end of the billing period.

Where its own pages disagree

Images are the clearest case. The FAQ promises on-demand pictures: “generate adult-themed images (from realistic to anime/hentai) via prompts while chatting.” The safety page, which speaks in terms of “the bot,” says the opposite — images shared “are not generated in response to specific user requests,” the system “refrains from creating deepfake content” and sends only images “sourced from predefined folders,” chosen by an algorithm that “analyzes the ongoing chat context.” Both pages are on joi.com, read the same day.

Privacy is the second. FAQ 10 calls Joi “a safe and anonymous space” where “your data stays secure.” The safety page says “our compliance officers diligently scrutinize interactions with the bots,” and that “every model response and user message undergoes classification” by a second model, which swaps in “a pre-prepared, safe response” when something is flagged. These can coexist, but a reader weighing “anonymous” against “scrutinised” has to decide what each word covers.

Limits are the third. The FAQ describes “unfiltered NSFW chats where you dictate the vibe.” The safety page lists prohibited topics that the bot configuration cannot be made to produce “under no circumstances,” among them suicidal ideation, self-harm, incest, unqualified medical advice and financial advice, and ends “We maintain a zero-tolerance stance when it comes to inappropriate content.” The list is plain and public. Whether “unfiltered” and “zero-tolerance” describe the same filter is something the pages do not answer.

Seven products, ordered by how plainly each one's own pages say what a message, a photo or a video costs, with the clearest printed price as the tiebreak. JOI itself sits outside the order as the thing being compared against. Every cell comes from a company's own page; the JOI row was read on 15 October 2026.

What the alternatives say for themselves

OurDream is the clearest about what each extra costs. Its headline says “Unlimited messages with any AI character,” and its help centre prices the rest: 1,000 dreamcoins a month on a $19.99 plan, or $9.99 a month billed upfront as $119.88 a year. Subscriber chats cost nothing, “Genius / Lively Genius models” cost 1 dreamcoin per response, voice calls 50 coins a minute and video 100 coins per five seconds. “Dreamcoins do not refresh monthly.” Read on 21 September 2026.

CrushOn.AI prints the whole ladder: Standard $5.99, Premium $14.99, Luxe $39.99, Elite $89.99 and Imperial $199.99 a month, with a Pro chat package at $24.99 on top. The free tier is 100 message credits a month, with history deleted after seven days of inactivity. Its pricing page title says “No Filter” while its Community Guidelines say “Avoid depicting explicit sexual activity and stimulation.” Read on 30 September 2026.

SpicyChat puts the content position in its marketing and sells memory as a number: 4K of context on Get A Taste, 8K on True Supporter, up to 32K on I'm All In. Tiers are $5.95, $19.95 and $29.95 a month since 8 September 2026. It promises “Unlimited Messages... No paywalls. No timers.” A developer's App Store reply puts the live library at “over 1,000 characters,” against the “1 Million+ NSFW Characters” on the marketing page. Read on 21 September 2026.

Nomi settles the content question in one sentence — the heading reads “Unfiltered Chats” — and publishes no price: nomi.ai/pricing returns a 404, and the App Store listing carries Launch Plan $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year and Standard $15.99 a month. That makes it the same kind of case as JOI on the website, with the difference that an amount is printed somewhere you can look it up. Starting is “free (no credit card required).” Read on 21 September 2026.

Candy.ai calls itself uncensored in its own meta description, runs in a browser and installs as a web app, and keeps the amount for checkout: plans sold monthly, quarterly and yearly, with roughly 100 tokens a month disclosed at checkout per its own terms. One token pool covers chat, voice, images and video, which is JOI's Neuron arrangement under a different name. Read on 21 September 2026.

Our own numbers

Ours are production aggregates — counts and shares, no conversation text, nothing that points at a person. Over the thirty days to 15 October 2026, 450,678 messages went through. Of what people typed in an earlier window, the thirty days ending 1 September 2026, 4.34% touched mature content and 7.37% asked for photos; 0.36% asked about being remembered.

What we charge is one amount. Premium is $9.99 a month and Ultra is $24.99. There is no unit like Neurons, no pay-per-read and no add-on per character. There is no adult-content filter, and no tier buys one. Memory is the same across the free Telegram trial and both paid tiers. Photos are counted in the plan: a free account gets ten a week. WhatsApp has been paid from the first message since 4 August 2026, while the Telegram trial needs no card.

What JOI does better

It is the only product here whose own pages describe “official digital duplicates of real celebrities.” The pages we read for the other six mention nothing similar, and we don't offer it.

It prints its prohibited-topics list, and its safety page explains how the second-model check works and says compliance officers look at interactions. We publish less about our own checks than that. The Terms also carry a dedicated anti-trafficking and anti-exploitation policy with an effective date of 21 August 2026, and list a custodian of records for its adult depictions.

And it is a product with video, a character builder and a wall of ready-made cards, where our cast is small and fixed. If browsing hundreds of cards is the pleasure, JOI has the catalogue and we don't.

Where we fall short

The cast is dozens of companions, written by us. There is no builder, no editor, no celebrity cards, no video tool and nothing to import. There is no screen showing what a companion has kept about you, and group chats do not exist.

Scale is the other honest gap: we are a small service. And the free way in is Telegram or nothing, because WhatsApp costs money from the first message.

Who each of these suits

  • Pick OurDream if you would rather read what a voice call or a video costs in a help article before you start.
  • Pick CrushOn.AI if you want every tier's amount printed, and can live with guidelines narrower than the page title.
  • Pick SpicyChat if a large catalogue and a published memory size matter more than a single companion.
  • Pick us if you want the conversation inside WhatsApp or Telegram at one monthly amount with no per-message or per-photo unit, and a small in-house cast is fine.
  • Pick Nomi if one companion is enough and you want the content position in a single sentence.
  • Pick Candy.ai if a browser is the whole requirement and learning the price at checkout doesn't bother you.
  • Stay on JOI if the celebrity cards or the wall of characters are the draw and you are comfortable that its pages differ on images, privacy and limits.

Where these facts came from

Everything quoted about JOI was read on 15 October 2026 on its homepage and FAQ, its About page, its Safety Guidelines and its Terms, which include the Neuron costs and the anti-trafficking policy. Six addresses we tried for a price list or a help page all returned 404. Facts about the other five products come from each company's own pages, on the dates recorded against them in our notes on those products. Our own figures are production aggregates for the thirty days to 15 October 2026 (message total; the shares from earlier windows are dated where they appear).

Open questions

Nobody here has paid for a month at JOI, so what Premium costs, how many Neurons it includes and what a Neuron is in dollars are unknown to us. We do not know whether pictures in a live chat are generated or sent from stored folders, because its own pages say both. And we haven't tested the celebrity cards, the character builder, or what its memory holds after six weeks. Those answers come from someone who runs them.

Frequently asked questions

Is JOI AI uncensored?
Its FAQ says it offers “unfiltered NSFW chats where you dictate the vibe.” Its safety page, read the same day, lists prohibited topics — among them suicidal ideation, self-harm, incest and unqualified medical or financial advice — and says every user message and model response is checked by a second model. It also states a “zero-tolerance stance when it comes to inappropriate content.” Those are two different descriptions, and the pages do not reconcile them.
How much does JOI AI cost?
The pages we could read do not say. joi.com/pricing and the other plan addresses returned 404 on 15 October 2026, and the homepage shows no Premium amount. The Terms say prices vary by region, length, character and promotions. They do give Neuron costs: 4 to read a romantic message, up to 120 for a photo and up to 1,900 for a video.
Does JOI generate images on request?
Its pages disagree. The FAQ says you can “generate adult-themed images (from realistic to anime/hentai) via prompts while chatting.” The safety page says images “are not generated in response to specific user requests” and come from “predefined folders.” The Terms call the platform one that offers “AI-generated adult imagery and video.”
What are Neurons on JOI?
Per the Terms, Neurons are the unit for services outside the subscription, including “romantic, erotic or sexually explicit messages, visual content, or adult-themed scenarios.” A romantic message costs 4 to read, a photo up to 120 and a video up to 1,900, and Virtual gifts are priced in Neurons too. How many a Premium month includes, and their dollar value, are not stated.
Does JOI give refunds?
The Terms say you “shall not claim refunds for any partial period of subscription,” and that if Premium lapses, access to Bot Subscriptions is suspended without refund, credit, compensation or extension. Cancelling is possible at any time from the My Subscriptions section and takes effect at the end of the billing period.
Is JOI AI private?
The FAQ calls it “a safe and anonymous space.” The safety page says “compliance officers diligently scrutinize interactions with the bots.” Both are on joi.com. The privacy policy is a separate document that we did not use for this answer.
How old do you have to be to use JOI?
The Terms say you must be at least 18, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction if that is higher. They also prohibit any sexual content involving someone who is or appears to be under 18, whether real, fictional or AI-generated.
Can you use JOI on WhatsApp or Telegram?
Nothing on the pages we read mentions WhatsApp or Telegram as an entry point. The safety page speaks of “the bot,” but does not say where it runs. JOI is documented as a website.
What is the closest JOI alternative?
OurDream or CrushOn.AI, if the reason for leaving is unreadable pricing, since both print their amounts. SpicyChat, if you want a large catalogue and memory sold as a number. We would add ourselves for WhatsApp or Telegram, minus the cards and the video.
