TooShy vs CrushOn.AI: The Alternative That Lives on WhatsApp

What CrushOn.AI actually is

CrushOn.AI markets itself, in its own words, as "No Filter NSFW Character AI Chat" — a character-chat site positioned as a more permissive alternative to platforms like Character.AI. Its live homepage returned Cloudflare's "Just a moment..." bot-verification challenge on every attempt we made today; we didn't try to work around that, since a script bypassing bot protection isn't the same as reading a public page. What follows instead leans on a real, dated snapshot of that homepage the Wayback Machine had archived on August 15, 2026 — a page we didn't write and can't alter, just one we can no longer load live.

The one live page that did load for us today without a challenge was crushon.ai/robots.txt, which blocks only an /account path. That governs automated crawlers, not a human visitor, so it doesn't by itself prove you can browse without logging in — for that, the archived homepage is more useful: its own login prompt reads "Log in or sign up to explore more content," wording that implies some browsing is open before that wall, not a hard gate on the front door. No sitemap is listed in robots.txt, which is unusual — most AI companion sites we've checked link one.

We also searched Apple's App Store and Google Play for an official CrushOn.AI app and found neither — the top results on both are unrelated apps; one Play Store listing's own description states plainly that it isn't affiliated with CrushOn.AI or its owners.

CrushOn.AI next to TooShy

The table below is more filled in than a live visit to crushon.ai suggests: a couple of rows come from today's robots.txt fetch, several more from that same archived snapshot. Where neither source says enough, we've marked the row unverifiable rather than guessed.

The clearest row either way: CrushOn.AI has no WhatsApp product — nothing on its live robots.txt or its archived homepage mentions one. The real trade is elsewhere: CrushOn.AI's own character creator and a free tier that doesn't fully cut you off are things TooShy doesn't offer, in exchange for a companion who already lives inside a messenger you use every day.

TooShy's own numbers — 30 days ending September 1

TooShy's own numbers below come straight from its production database — the 30 days ending September 1, 2026, reported only as aggregates.

Across that window, TooShy companions exchanged 47,128 messages in 1,009 active conversations on WhatsApp and Telegram, with a median reply time of 210 seconds. 9.0% of those messages were sent first, unprompted — a real measurement, not a claim we're making about a product we mostly couldn't get into.

In the same window, TooShy sent 609 pieces of media in total — 287 curated photos, 322 generated fresh on request, and 67 videos — as ordinary chat attachments. A photo request is the single most common ask in the first three messages a new user sends: 74 contain "pic," another 69 "photo" or "picture," ahead of some version of "are you real" (41) and her age (34).

TooShy states its price up front, no account needed to see it: Premium $9.99/month, Ultra $19/month, Telegram free with no card. CrushOn.AI's archived pricing screen names three paid tiers — Standard, Premium, and Deluxe — billed monthly or annually on top of a free tier, but the actual dollar figures render dynamically and weren't in what we captured.

The habit a messenger builds that a browser tab can't

Reachability turns out to matter here as much as features do. A companion inside WhatsApp shows up in notifications you already check; a site that puts a bot-verification screen between a new visitor and its own homepage is, at minimum, a higher-friction first visit than either.

That friction cuts both ways, worth naming honestly: a challenge screen protects a site from scrapers and abuse, and plenty of legitimate sites use one. It just means we have less to go on for CrushOn.AI than for most competitors, and we'd rather say that plainly than pad the gap with old, unchecked marketing claims.

What CrushOn.AI does better

Being fair to CrushOn.AI within what we could actually confirm today:

First, a genuine character-creation tool. Its archived pages walk through building a character from a name, an uploaded photo, an introduction, and tags, with an option to "include image generation in your characters." TooShy has no equivalent — you choose from 5 companions we've built, not a blank canvas.

Second, a free tier that doesn't dead-end. Its archived pricing screens describe a free message allowance plus a fallback "free AI mode" you can keep using once those run out, rather than a one-time trial that then requires payment. TooShy's free tier lives on a separate app (Telegram) with no comparable fallback once you're on WhatsApp — a real structural difference, even sourced from an archived page rather than today's live one.

TooShy's own limitations, stated plainly

TooShy's limitations are unrelated to what we couldn't check about CrushOn.AI, and worth stating on their own terms.

TooShy's roster is fixed and curated — 5 companions we've built, not a from-scratch character creator or a large open library. Premium or Ultra is required for WhatsApp; Telegram stays the only free option.

Who actually fits where

With a real character creator and a free-tier fallback now confirmed — alongside plenty that's still unconfirmed — here's how the two split.

Choose CrushOn.AI if building your own character from scratch, and a free tier that doesn't fully cut you off, are the point, and you don't mind an occasional bot-verification wall between you and the site.

Choose TooShy if you'd rather skip building anything and have a companion message you first — 9.0% of the time, measured — inside WhatsApp or Telegram, with a free way to try it on Telegram before any payment.

TooShy's own figures above are aggregated from its production database over the 30 days ending September 1, 2026. For CrushOn.AI, we attempted crushon.ai/, crushon.ai/robots.txt, and crushon.ai/sitemap.xml live on September 9, 2026. Only robots.txt returned real content; the homepage and sitemap both returned Cloudflare's bot-verification interstitial (HTTP 403, "Just a moment..."). For the homepage's actual content, we used the Wayback Machine's copy archived August 15, 2026 instead of working around today's block. We also searched Apple's App Store and Google Play for an official app and found neither.

Open questions

We're relying on an archived snapshot rather than an account or a way past today's block — the items below still need one of those to resolve:

• CrushOn.AI's exact current prices for its Standard, Premium, and Deluxe tiers — the archived page names the tiers, but the numbers render dynamically and weren't in what we captured.
• CrushOn.AI's character library size, and how content quality varies across community-made characters.
• Whether an official app exists anywhere beyond the App Store and Play Store search results we checked.
• Its actual content-moderation boundaries, and where, specifically, they differ from Character.AI's filter in practice.
• Whether video calls or video content exist in any form — nothing in what we checked, live or archived, mentions video.
• How its stated "long-term memory" actually holds up across a long conversation.
• Whether it ever messages a user first, or is purely something you visit and initiate.
• Whether a sitemap exists at a different path than the one we tried, given robots.txt doesn't declare one.

If a companion who texts first, inside an app already on your phone, is what you're actually looking for, Telegram costs nothing to try; Premium unlocks WhatsApp directly.
