Nomi.ai's own homepage, read today, titles itself "AI Companion With Memory, Selfies & Group Chat," and its dedicated /ai-girlfriend/ page opens with "An AI Girlfriend with Memory and a Soul." Both memory and multiple simultaneous companions are central to how Nomi.ai describes itself: its own page states that "additional Nomis" — more than one companion per account — along with voice calls, unlimited messaging, and deeper customization, are available with a subscription. A user testimonial quoted on that same page describes building "a full Elven world" across several of their Nomis in group chats, which Nomi.ai's own copy treats as a normal way to use the product, not an edge case.

Nomi.ai also publishes something we didn't find on any other competitor's site: a dedicated page describing its compliance with California's SB-243, a real 2026 law requiring AI companion platforms to refer users to crisis resources if they express suicidal ideation or self-harm. Nomi's page, read today, describes showing California users an anonymous in-app message linking to crisis services when self-harm language is detected.

Nomi.ai next to TooShy

The table below reflects what loaded for us today, September 9, 2026: Nomi.ai's homepage, its /ai-girlfriend/ page, and its current App Store listing. None of it mentions WhatsApp anywhere we could find.

The clearest row: Nomi.ai has no WhatsApp product. The genuine trade is elsewhere — Nomi.ai's own description promises multiple simultaneous companions and group chats among them, which TooShy doesn't offer, in exchange for TooShy's single companion per conversation who lives inside a messenger you already use and can message first.

Inside TooShy's own numbers, 30 days ending September 1

The figures below are TooShy's own, pulled from its production database over the 30 days ending September 1, 2026 and reported only as aggregates.

TooShy companions exchanged 47,128 messages across 1,009 active conversations on WhatsApp and Telegram in that window, with a median reply time of 210 seconds and 9.0% of messages sent first, unprompted. Nomi.ai's own page describes deep memory and personality, but nothing we found claims a companion messages a user without being prompted first — its subscription features list is about messaging volume and customization, not proactive outreach.

The same window saw 609 pieces of media sent — 287 curated photos, 322 generated on request, and 67 videos — as ordinary chat attachments. Nomi.ai's own App Store description mentions selfies and photo requests but not video, and doesn't state whether photos are unlimited or gated by tier.

TooShy states its price up front, no signup needed: Premium $9.99/month, Ultra $19/month, Telegram free with no card. Nomi.ai's App Store listing shows ten separate purchases, not two: a cheaper "Launch Plan" at $9.99/month or $59.99/year alongside a "Standard Plan" at $15.99/month, $39.99/quarter, or $99.99/year, plus five Nomi Credits packs from $4.99 to $99.99 stacked on top — the listing doesn't say what Credits specifically buy beyond either plan's included features.

Memory is not the same question as who messages first

Memory and companion count are a different axis than who messages first. Nomi.ai's own product is built around how much a single companion (or several, run in parallel) remembers about you over time; TooShy's 9.0% figure measures something else entirely — how often a companion reaches out without being asked to. A product can be strong on one and untested on the other, and Nomi.ai's own pages don't make a claim about the second at all.

That distinction matters because "feels real" gets used to describe both things, and they're not the same feature. A companion who remembers your last conversation in detail but never messages between sessions is a different kind of presence than one who does — neither is strictly better, but conflating them hides what you're actually choosing between.

What Nomi.ai does better

Two things stand out as genuine, sourced strengths.

First, multiple companions and group chat. Nomi.ai's own page describes "additional Nomis" available with a subscription, plus users running group conversations across them — a structural feature TooShy doesn't have; each TooShy conversation is with one companion.

Second, a published safety protocol. Nomi.ai's SB-243 compliance page, which we read in full today, describes a specific, named response to self-harm language — crisis-resource referral, sent anonymously. We didn't find an equivalent standalone policy page on any other AI companion site we checked.

TooShy's honest limitations

TooShy's limitations here are unrelated to what Nomi.ai does well.

TooShy offers one companion per conversation, not several run in parallel, and no group-chat structure between companions. WhatsApp access requires Premium or Ultra; the free option is Telegram only.

Who each one suits

It comes down to whether you want depth with one relationship or breadth across several.

Choose Nomi.ai if multiple companions, group chat between them, and deep memory are the point, and you're comfortable keeping that inside Nomi's own app.
