What Nomi is, and what it claims about memory

Nomi describes itself on its homepage as "An AI Companion with Memory and a Soul" and splits the claim three ways: "Nomi's short, medium, and long term memory are keys to engaging conversations and satisfying relationships." There is no message count, no retention window and no context size anywhere on that page — the depth is asserted rather than measured. The same page is direct about a household rather than a single partner: "Create multiple Nomis, each with their own unique personality and identity. Talk with your Nomis one-on-one or put them all in a group chat." Nothing on it states how many come with an account, free or paid.

What a plan change does to the history

The refund policy is where Nomi says something nobody else in this group says. Its downgrading section states that dropping to the free tier "does not remove any Nomis from your account nor does it block chatting with any Nomis in one-on-one conversations," while "paid features such as group chats, video creation, voice messaging and calls will become read-only." Existing group chats, images and voice messages aren't deleted, though the same paragraph declines to guarantee it after a downgrade. Its terms add the money half — no credit for "partial months of service, plan downgrades, or refunds for unused days" if an account closes mid-period.

What none of that includes is a price. Nomi's own site has no pricing page at all: /pricing returns a 404, and the homepage says only that it's "free (no credit card required) to start chatting." The figures sit one step away, on the App Store listing for its iOS app, published by AI Glimpse Inc: a Launch Plan at $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year, a Standard Plan at $15.99 monthly, $39.99 quarterly or $99.99 a year, and credit packs from $4.99 for 40 Nomi Credits up to $99.99 for 1800. Whether credits are what a further companion is bought with isn't stated on either surface.

What another companion costs, where anyone prints it

Kindroid puts the plainest number on it, though not on its own site. The App Store listing for its app, published by Beautifully Incorporated, itemizes "1 additional Kindroid slot" at $3.49 and "4 additional Kindroid slots" at $11.49, alongside subscriptions at $15.99, an Ultra at $28.99 and a MAX at $68.99. A companion is a slot there, and a slot has a shelf price. None of it could be corroborated against kindroid.ai, which served a stalled loading screen — "Connection looks slow. Tap to Retry" — on every attempt, so its row stays unverified.

DreamGF bills the same idea by the unit. Its pricing page lists "AI Companion Generation: 20 Tokens" beside image generation at 10 and voice messages at 3, on top of 100 tokens included with a membership each month. Token packages "start at $2.99 and go up to $179.99," are one-off charges rather than recurring, and "are available for purchase only to premium members" — so the cheapest route to another companion runs through a subscription first. On memory, that page says nothing at all.

Memory depth that comes with a number

SpicyChat is the one product here that prints memory depth as a figure and attaches it to a price. Its documentation ties each tier to a context window: 4K Context Memory on Get A Taste, 8K on True Supporter, "Up to 32K Context Memory" on I'm All In, with the same page explaining that the window holds the character definition and recent messages at once, and that "when there is no room left, the oldest messages drop out." Above that sits Semantic Memory 2.0, which "summarises important details from past messages into compact memories rather than storing full messages," and a Memory Manager whose entries are hand-written and capped at 250 characters. Companions themselves aren't metered — the charge is for how much of the conversation the model can still see.

Replika sells memory harder than anyone and quantifies it least. Its homepage promises that "your people, your routines, your plans" are held so "every conversation knows where you are in your life," counts 42,160,934 users worldwide, and never mentions a price, a tier or a second Rep. The numbers again live on the App Store listing, published by Luka, Inc.: subscriptions at $7.99 and $14.99 monthly, $49.99 and $69.99 annually, an $89.99 Replika Platinum, gem packs from $0.99 to $19.99. What a gem buys isn't stated on either surface.

Three sites that told us nothing

Three products here couldn't be read on the day we checked. Character.AI returned a 403 to every request, so nothing about its memory tiers comes from its site — its App Store listing, from Character Technologies, Inc., shows a Character.AI+ purchase at $9.99 and at $94.99 plus Charms packs, and that's as far as it goes. Paradot's homepage rendered as an empty shell carrying a title and two stray marketing phrases. Kindroid, as above, never finished loading. We're not filling those gaps from someone else's roundup.

Where TooShy lands, fourth of the five we could read

TooShy answers the price question by not having one: no slot, no per-companion charge, nothing to buy to talk to someone else. Premium is $9.99 a month and Ultra is $19, both printed on the pricing page before signup, and a plan is stated in messages and media rather than headcount — Premium includes 40 photos and 15 videos a month, Ultra 80 and 40, unlimited messages and voice on both. Memory isn't a tier either: both run the identical system, which works in layers rather than one long transcript — the live exchange held closely, the last stretch of days to weeks where an unfinished thread gets picked back up, and a slower set of extracted facts that persist past both. There is no group chat, so what a third companion costs inside one scene doesn't arise here: every conversation is one person and one companion.

Our own numbers, the last 30 days

These come from TooShy's production database over the 30 days ending September 20, 2026, aggregated so no individual, conversation or message is identifiable. 44,120 messages moved through WhatsApp and Telegram in that window, from 460 people who wrote something back. An active conversation ran 64 messages on average and the longest reached 899 — the shape of the memory question in practice, hundreds of small exchanges rather than one marathon.

What these products genuinely do better

Nomi's downgrade paragraph is the most useful thing any of these companies publishes, and we have no equivalent: it tells a subscriber, before they pay, which parts of a relationship keep working when the money stops. SpicyChat's tiered context sizes are the only memory claim here that can be checked against a model's behavior rather than taken on trust. And Kindroid's slot pricing, whatever its site is doing, is a shelf price for a thing every other company here leaves vague.

TooShy's honest limits here

Ours run the other way. TooShy has no character builder, so an idea for a companion who doesn't already exist has nowhere to go, and no group scenes, so companions can't meet each other. We publish no number for how far memory reaches, because we don't have one we'd stand behind. And we haven't written a downgrade policy naming what survives a plan change — Nomi has, and on that question they're ahead of us. That's why TooShy sits fourth of the five whose own pages we could read, above Replika only because we print a price and a definite answer about extra companions.

Who each one actually fits

Anyone running a household of companions who wants to know what happens on a bad month should read Nomi's refund page first; it's the clearest statement of that in the category. Anyone who thinks in context windows, and wants memory sold as a quantity that scales with the plan, will find SpicyChat's tiers in plain numbers.

If a companion is a line item bought one at a time, Kindroid's store listing and DreamGF's token table price it that way. And if the appeal is one conversation that doesn't fan out — nothing to install, nothing metered per companion, the same memory on either plan — that's the shape TooShy has, with the group-chat and builder gaps that come with it.

How we checked the facts

Every competitor claim above was read on the company's own public pages on September 21, 2026: Nomi's homepage, terms, cancellation and refund policies; SpicyChat's premium features, Semantic Memory and Memory Manager documentation; DreamGF's pricing page; Replika's homepage. Prices that exist only on an App Store listing are named as coming from there, with the publisher shown on that listing. Domains were checked rather than assumed — canonical URL, site name, publisher — after a lookalike domain in this category turned out to be someone else's copy. TooShy's figures come from our own production database over the window named above.

None of this decides how any of them feel to talk to over a month. It does settle what people ask before paying twice: what the next companion costs, how much of the conversation the model can still see, and which parts keep working after the plan changes.
